Text: Romans 5:1-2
Romans 5:1–2 CSB
1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 We have also obtained access through him by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we boast in the hope of the glory of God.

Hook: The Ceasefire That Wasn’t Enough

Illustration: In 1918, when World War I ended with an armistice, there was peace — technically. But under the surface, bitterness, blame, and tension remained. It wasn’t lasting peace. It was just a pause.
Transition: Many people assume God is just “not mad” at them anymore.
But Romans 5 speaks of something far deeper: not a pause in hostilities;
but a full, lasting peace that only comes when you have been justified by faith.

Book: What Romans 5:1–2 Says

“Since we have been justified by faith…”
This is not future — it’s past tense.
Not by works, not by religion — by faith in Christ alone.
Illustration: A courtroom where the judge declares you “not guilty” — not because you earned it, but because someone else took your place.
“...we have peace with God...”
Not just a feeling — a legal, relational peace.
No more enmity (Romans 5:10 calls us “enemies” before Christ).
This is objective peace, not subjective calm.
Greek word: eirēnē — the cessation of hostilities, a settled relationship.
“...through our Lord Jesus Christ...”
Peace comes through a person, not a process.
He’s the mediator (1 Timothy 2:5), the bridge, the reconciler.
“We have also obtained access...into this grace in which we stand...”
The first two fruits of our justification are peace with God and access into the presence of God
Not just peace, but permanent access to grace.
Like a child who always has permission to enter the Father’s throne room.
“...and we boast in the hope of the glory of God.”
Hope isn’t wishful thinking — it’s confident expectation.
What is the “glory of God”?
Glory awaits us, and peace guarantees it.

Look: Why This Matters Today

Without peace with God, we are spiritually at war, even if we feel “fine.”
Many people chase peace through therapy, self-help, money, or even religion — but real peace is only through justification by faith.
Access to God is not earned — it's given.
You can stand in grace, not stumble through guilt.
Illustration: Imagine living in a palace, but every time you walk in, you feel like you’re trespassing.
That’s how many Christians live.
But this verse says you’re not only invited — you stand there.
It’s your home now.

Took: How We Live It Out

Receive the Peace:
If you’ve been trying to earn peace with God, stop.
Receive it by trusting in Jesus. It's justification by faith, not effort.
Stand in Grace:
Stop trying to “qualify” yourself every day. You have access — live like it.
Let this shape your prayer life, your confidence, your worship.
Boast in Hope:
In a world filled with anxiety and fear, you can boast — not arrogantly, but confidently — in what Christ has secured.
Closing Illustration: Horatio Spafford lost everything — his business and his daughters — yet wrote: “It is well with my soul.” Why? Because he had peace with God. Not circumstantial peace, but eternal, blood-bought peace.
